Farthest Reaches is both honored and appreciative for the opportunity to have known Wally Schirra both personally and professionally over the years.  He was everything you've every read or heard about him....and more.  Wally is and always will be missed by everyone who ever came to know him and for those of you who did have that pleasure, I'm sure you would all agree.

We are very pleased that we continue our close relationship with Wally's family and that end are offering quite a number of items this pioneer astronaut's personal archives.  Keep checking back as this page will update periodically.  Keep in mind that these are for the most part, unique one of a kind items, so don't delay if interested because when they are gone....they're gone!  Happy browsing or as Wally would have said, "Happy Landings!"

Walter Schirra Passport

Walter Schirra Passport

This US Government Passport was issued to Wally Schirra on August 16, 1972 and cancelled on August 15, 1977.  It carries his photo and is hand signed twice using his full given name as you can see in the images to the left.  It is loaded from first to last page with stamps reflecting his extensive traveling schedule.  This is the earliest passport I have to handle and consequently the most desirable.

Wally Schirra Hawaiian Shirt

Elton John was known for his flamboyant eyewear, Gene Kranz had his trademark vests and Wally Schirra will always be associated with his iconic Hawaiian shirts.

During his NASA days it was Ban-Lon but for years after, Astronaut Wally Schirra loved and lived in his Hawaiian shirts. The Schirra's owned a vacation home in Kawaii and spent time there whenever they were able, so it's no wonder he felt so comfortable in these shirts. Any of you have had the distinct pleasure of meeting Wally publically over the years can attest to this.

In fact, following Wally's passing in 2007 at the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation's yearly event, Scott Carpenter honored his fallen brother (along with several celebrity guests and attendees) by wearing their Hawaiian shirts to the traditionally more formal Saturday evening banquet.

Offered here is one of Wally's Hawaiian shirts.  It's the very same one shown here in the picture of him with good friend and Mercury Astronaut's Nurse, Dee O'Hara.

Operations to Wally Schirra Re: Success of Sigma 7 (October 6, 1962)

Wally Schirra MA-8 Congratulations Letter

This is a letter from George Low, Director, Spacecraft & Flight Operations, NASA congratulating CDR Walter M. Schirra for his "unqualified success of the Mercury - Atlas 8 mission."  He goes on to mention that his performance was due in large measure to "your flawless performance as a test pilot."  This letter is dated October 6, 1962, only three days after Schirra's Pacific Ocean splashdown. This letter on official NASA letterhead comes from CDR Schirra's personal Mercury files where it has been kept since receiving following his historic flight some 53 years ago.  It's envelope is also included. A most important letter.

Farthest Reaches is pleased to offer this most unusual display presented to Astronaut Wally Schirra while attending the 18th Reunion of the Mercury Astronauts on May 27 - 29, 1977.  This reunion coincided with the May 27th, 1977 dedication of the quintessential space themed ride, Space Mountain at Disneyland, California.

This beautiful display measures 13.5" x 6.25".  The right side is a replica of Space Mountain and the left side is a plaque honoring the Mercury Astronauts on the occasion of their 18th reunion.  This display is designed to stand on it's own either on a shelf or desktop.

This a wonderful item for those who are interested in both space history and historic Disney memorabilia.  It doesn't get any better than this.  Comes with a COA from Farthest Reaches LLC.

Hand signed by ALL SEVEN Mercury Astronauts !!

from the Schirra Family Collection

Mercury 7 autographed

Mercury 7 autographed

Original vintage 1959 NASA newsletter detailing progress on the Mercury program, four pages, 8x10.5, vertically hand signed in ballpoint on the front page by all seven of the original Mercury astronauts, each next to his photo and all signing with their less common "formal" signatures: "Leroy G. Cooper, Jr.," "John H. Glenn, Jr." "Virgil I. Grissom, " "Walter M. Schirra," "Alan B. Shepard, Jr." and "D.K. Slayton."

The content includes articles and photos on safety tests, water drops, re-entry for ground and water landing and more.

Shows mild toning as would be expected and some paper residue on back right border from where it was once attached to an album page by the Schirra family but otherwise in awesome condition.

This item comes directly from the Schirra Family Collection with vintage signatures that are unquestionably authentic. It just doesn't get any better than this.

This fully hand signed Mercury 7 NASA newsletter will come with a COA from Suzanne Schirra.

This framed image of the Mercury 7 comes to you directly from the wall in the Schirra family home where Wally displayed it for years in his "man cave".  The image of the "Seven" is somewhat color shifted with the Schirra and Shepard signatures a bit faded but still quite legible and visible.  The signatures are unquestionably authentic.

The image itself is of the Astronauts posing in front of an US Air Force F-106B jet aircraft. The image measures 13.5" x 10.5" with the signatures being on the mat. The overall dimensions of this original 1961 frame is 17 x 21".

This is your chance to own one of Wally's prized mementos and better, one he saw each and every day given it's being displayed so  prominently in his San Diego home. It will come with a COA hand signed by Suzanne Schirra.

"ALL ENGINES AHEAD, FULL !!"

October 11, 1968

This professionally framed image of the Apollo 7 Saturn V sitting on the pad was presented to Astronaut Wally Schirra and hand signed by well wishers who worked long hours behind the scenes to ensure the success of this first flight of a manned Apollo mission. There are approximately 63 signatures' spaced nicely around the mat with a central theme of, "All Engines Ahead, Full !!"  One entry is dated 10/11/68, indicating this might have been given to Wally just before Apollo 7's actual lift-off on that day.

This framed item must have meant much to Commander Schirra who gave it a place of honor on the wall of his San Diego home for many years to follow.  The outside dimensions are a substantial 21" x 24.75"  The mat with signatures measures 16" x 20".

This significant memento of the successful flight of Apollo 7 will be accompanied by a letter of provenance by Wally's daughter, Suzanne Schirra.

This plaque was issued to Wally Schirra and reads:

"To Eternal Friendship, Honor, Integrity, Henri"

15 Year Reunion - May 17th, 1974"

This plaque was presented to Wally Schirra (and one to each of the Mercury 7) on the occasion of their 15 year reunion.  It was produced by their very close friend, Henri Landwirth a South Florida hotelier and  philanthropist.

Henri had a story as exciting (if not more so) than the Astronauts themselves and through a turn of events forever became a member their inner circle.  For some fascinating reading, click here for that story and I promise you'll understand why this plaque meant so much to Wally and his Mercury brothers. This memento of their reunion was displayed on the wall in Captain Schirra's den for many years until being offered for sale through Farthest Reaches by the Schirra Family. It measures, 10" x 14".
